Specification :
Country Of Origin :

India: Exclusively produced in Assam.
Regional Craft: Hand-woven by Boro artisans in the Bodo regions of Assam, where Eri sericulture is a traditional household activity, ensuring authentic tribal craftsmanship.

Fabric :

Type: Premium Eri Silk, a high-quality Silk-Cotton blend (depending on specific weave).
Texture: Soft, slightly grainy, and incredibly comfortable against the skin.

Material :

Base: Hand-loomed Eri silk threads, known for their natural strength and matte elegance.
Ornamentation: Multi-coloured cotton or silk threads used to create the vibrant floral and geometric Butta patterns.

Speciality :

Iconic Silhouette: Unlike a standard saree, the Dokhona is wrapped to cover the body from the chest to the ankles, typically secured at the waist.
Thermoregulation: Provides natural warmth in winter and remains breathable during the humid Assamese summers.

Technique Of Design :

Extra Weft Weaving: The colourful floral motifs (Phul) are woven into the fabric using an intricate extra-weft technique on a traditional wooden loom.
Agor Mastery: Features the famous Agor (tribal motifs), which are unique to the Bodo community.

Tribe Name :

Boro (Bodo) Tribe: Handcrafted by Bodo women weavers, who are world-renowned for their textile expertise.

Durability :

High: Eri silk is famously durable; the Dokhona is designed to be worn frequently and often becomes a cherished heirloom.
Colour Fastness: Uses high-quality dyed yarns that retain their vibrancy over many years.

Breathability :

Excellent: The hand-loomed natural fibres allow for maximum air circulation, making it suitable for long hours of wear during festivals.

Cultural & Traditional Significance :

Spiritual Connection: Traditionally worn during Bathou Puja and other religious ceremonies.
Festive Identity: The primary attire for the Bagurumba and Bwisagu dance performances.
Symbol of Womanhood: Represents the dignity, marital status, and cultural identity of a Bodo woman.

Care Instruction :

Washing: Hand wash gently in cold water using a mild, neutral detergent. Avoid harsh scrubbing on the woven motifs.
Drying: Dry flat in a shaded area. Direct sunlight should be avoided to prevent the delicate peach base and colourful Phul from fading.
Ironing: Iron on the reverse side while slightly damp using a silk/warm setting.
Storage: Store folded in a clean cotton cloth or a non-plastic breathable bag to allow the natural fibres to breathe.
